Savvy Reviews: Lunch Money Gets DIZZY!
February 09, 2009
The newest album from our Columbia-based friends, Lunch Money, arrived just as I was heading out the door for preschool pick-up. I got my daughter and her friend settled into booster seats, popped the CD into the stereo without any introduction, and waited for their reaction.
"What's this CD?" Claire asked, as soon as the first chords of I Love My Library started.
"It's the new Lunch Money CD," I replied, trying not to sound too excited, as I wanted an honest reaction from the two of them.
"This is cool!" she said. "Yeah, way cool!" echoed her buddy.
Way cool indeed. Molly, Jay, and J.P. are the trio of musicians behind Lunch Money, and they've just released another great album of music for kids that grown-ups love, too.

January 27, 2009
You've got nine months before your little one enters into the big, big world of kindergarten. What's a family to do? Squeeze all the fun you can into the time between now and September, when the schedule of the school year will rule. Here are ten ideas for making the end of preschool memorable. 1. Play hooky. ...like an elephant: favorite memory games for kids
January 12, 2009
My daughter's best friend Madeleine has a mind like a steel trap: she can tell you about the places she's gone and what she did there at a level of detail that is sometimes startlingly accurate. (She does, however, still have trouble remembering where she put her shoes!) For kids to whom memory-building might not come quite as naturally, there are some fun toys and activities for teaching those Read more...

November 18, 2008
There's nothing like the sound of a good belly laugh from your child, when the giggles just seem to bubble up from down deep and spill out without restraint. While there are a lot of children's books I love for their sweet lessons and gorgeous illustrations, there are a few that have a special place on the bookcase because of their ability to make us laugh out loud. Just in case my Read more...

Top 5 Things to Do on a Rainy Day
May 27, 2008
The Lowcountry treats us pretty well in terms of weather, as long as you like it hot nine months of the year. But what do you do when the skies open up and the kids drive you bonkers? 1. Get Coffee. My favorite local cafes realize that sleep-deprived parents make excellent repeat customers. Muddy Waters now has two locations -- the original location off Maybank Highway on James Island, and the Read more...
How To Be A Princess for a Day
May 20, 2008
Step 1: Put on your tiaras. If you're going to be a prince or princess, you need some bling. Pull out your favorite tiara and place it proudly upon your head. If you don't have a tiara, make one! A simple combination of construction paper and glitter will do. Getting into costume, even in a small way, helps with getting into character. Step 2: Head to the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry .
